Methodology

A weighted average of the dollar's foreign-exchange value against the currencies of 26 economies that make up most of U.S. trade in goods and services, as published by the Federal Reserve Board in its H.10 release. The weights follow U.S. trade and change once a year. January 2006 equals 100; a higher value means a stronger dollar. Rates are noon buying rates in New York, for business days only; days without a value are never filled. The Board publishes the index weekly, on Mondays, for the previous week, so the latest days can trail by up to a week.
