Methodology

West Texas Intermediate spot price at Cushing, Oklahoma, free on board (FOB), in dollars per barrel (EIA series RWTC). On 20 April 2020 the price fell below zero (−$36.98), as storage at Cushing ran out; the value is kept as published. EIA compiles its spot prices from market price reporters. Prices are for trading days only; weekends and market holidays have no value and are left blank, never filled. EIA publishes the series with a lag of a few days and may revise recent days. The figures are nominal US dollars, not adjusted for inflation. CK Economics keeps the series from January 2000; EIA's table goes further back for some prices.
